I have played football, baseball, and ice hockey for years and I have never worn an athletic cup. I am really tough and have a high pain tolerance and have been able to handle just about any shot to the testicles. However, somehow my mom found out and now she is freaking out and saying I can’t play anymore unless I wear one. I think my mom has been watching too many movies where guys act like wimps when they are hit in the testicles. I don’t like athletic cups because they slow me down. Also, I am really concerned girls will laugh at me and think I am a wimp if I wear one. How do I get my mom off my back? (I am 17)

I am a hockey, football, lacrosse, and baseball player. I have never worn an athletic cup or jockstrap when I play because I am not a wimp and have really high pain tolerance. I have never had any problems despite being kicked, punched, and hit down there with pucks and other things. However, my summer baseball coach wants me to play catcher so I am considering wearing one because the pitcher throws the ball right at the groin. However, I am worried girls will think I am a wimp if they find out I wear one when I catch. Will they? I have a reputation as a super tough guy and can’t stand the thought girls will think I am weak or something.

I am thinking of wearing a cup because the puck flies right at your groin. But I am really concerned girls will laugh at me and think I am a wimp if I wear one. Will they? I don’t want girls to think I am a wussy or something. What should I do? I have been hit in the groin really hard with baseballs and footballs before and have had no problems aside from testicle swelling.

I am a 17-year old guy playing my last year of high school football. I’ve played fullback for 5 years and have never worn an athletic cup because it slows me down. I am not a wimp and have a really high pain tolerance and have never had any problems even when I’ve been hit “down there.” Anyway, somehow girlfriend found out I don’t wear one and now she is freaking out and saying I am going to hurt myself. I think she is overacting because she has watched too many movies where guys act like wimps after getting hit there. How do I get her off my back?
