My son is 14 and is on a youth baseball team, he is a catcher, and during practice catchers are only required to wear a catchers mask while catching, I would like him to wear all the protective equipment he can, but he says he doesnt need it because it is just practice. What areas should he be worried about getting hurt in particular while catching without protection?

Right now, since the heat all he wears is pants and a tshirt. he doesnt even like wearing undies because its so hot.

I am a varsity catcher. I use an All Star system seven catchers mask. Most of the fields i play at are positioned so that as i am catching the sun is right in my face. I need to find a good pair of sunglasses to wear underneath my mask. I have been using my Oakley M Frames with an "S Hybrid" lens and i have had troubles seeing while ripping off my mask fast. From what i have heard the Oakley Flak Jacket fits tight on your head and wont come off. What is your opinion? Do you think that Flak Jackets would be a good choice? If not please leave your opinion on a good choice in sunglasses. THANKS

When an old-style catchers mask is purchased, does it come with both the mask and the bottom "hat" piece? Specifically the under armor ones? If not, what are the bottom "hat" pieces called and where can I find them? Thanks!

We live on a lake and he is a catcher for his baseball team. We also live in a very small southern state. He is cool and all the kids like him and think he is funny and tough. Just not sure he will like it after he does it and I am also worried about his head. Will he sunburn? Will his catchers mask rub a blister? So much for a mom to worry about. Also he has had long hair for the last couple of years and went to a buzz cut about a month ago. (I wouldn’t let him shave it atleast until school was out-didn’t want to cause a scene at school) He is a good kid-good grades and never in trouble.
He loves the answers we got back, except for the one no! My main concern is an old wives tale. what if it comes back orange or a froe or some thing weird- did i mention he has great hair now. I am gonna let him do it but just for the summer and then we will see. I hope it all goes well. We also just had a grandfather pass away from cancer and he lost his hair and now we have an uncle who has lost his to cancer. This may be where some of this is coming from. Or he may just think its cool!
